The project brief calls for master planning, architecture and interior design for an Art Centre and a College of Music at Soochow University Dushu Lake Campus. The combined construction floor area is 19,388 m2.
The master planning is sensitive to the campus’ main axis, the surrounding road and stream. The two independent buildings are well connected underground for performers’ access, also allowing for future extension to the southern campus through tunnel connections.
The Art Centre houses a multi-purpose concert theatre for an audience of 1133 people. It also features a pre-function area, café, rehearsal rooms and equipment storage, as well as independent VIP access and waiting room. The main stage is supported by side stages and a fly tower with ample back-of-house areas.
The College of Music provides for a 150-seat lecture hall, a library, an atrium, a small café, conference rooms, offices and practice rooms.
