CUHK C.W. Chu College

Located at the Campus Circuit North of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shatin, the new C.W. Chu College occupies the tree-lined former tennis courts. It houses bedrooms for three hundred students and four double-volume lounges on the elevated dormitory levels, while the master’s quarters, multi-function hall and administrative offices are situated on the base. The ‘centre’ layer, between the bedroom floors and the base, houses the FORUM encompassing student activity areas, tuck shop, study room/ library, T.V. room, laundry, gym and a tree-laced garden deck furnished with outdoor sofas and tables. Students enjoy the FORUM as an area for interchange and college community life in an elevated, secure and landscaped environment.

The college is designed to create a sense of community, a framework within which students can interchange, develop, learn and get involved. A human-scale mid-rise building forms an “embracing” court and provides multiple shared inter-woven common spaces throughout the building.
